I am off to Siren, Wisc. to celebrate the women on my mother's side of the family. It's our first annual ladies crafting weekend- couldn't be more excited for a weekend filled with art, stories and romantic comedies.

day off

today is my day off. it's the first wednesday i haven't spent in stillwater or white bear lake with my grandma in a couple of weeks. i savor those wednesdays with her, but today i needed a day to recollect and start checking things off of my to-do list.

i'm off to get my car washed, buy some origins face wash, and browse gilly hicks for some new goodies with a leftover gift card from christmas. work tonight at 5:30- here's to a productive day before then!

Q: I know you and your husband love to thrift. Tell me about the inspiration you get from thrifted finds.

A: My husband is a much better thrifter than I am, to tell you the truth. I owe it all to him. (I’m way too impatient to be a good thrifter.) The things he brings home inspire me tremendously, mostly because they’re often old — crackly-finish plates or milk glass or whatnot — and show so much history and care.It sort of jives with how I feel about food: I’m not really interested in those cakes you see in fancy bakeries, the ones that look all glassy and smooth and perfect, as though they were never touched by human hands. I’d much rather have a slightly lopsided layer cake, or a lumpy apple crumble, something that has character. The thrifted dishes and things that Brandon brings home are like that. They’re much more interesting to me than new things.

Antique gold and gray. What a color scheme! Sparklers, too!
I distinctly remember once when I was young hearing someone say her favorite color was gray, and I thought she must be the saddest person on earth- (out of all the colors you could choose?!) Now I love gray. It is brilliant with any bright color as an accent.
